Breakfast in America
Songwriters: Richard Davies & Roger Hodgson
Take a look at my girlfriend, she’s the only one I got
Not much of a girlfriend, never seem to get a lot
Take a jumbo across the water, like to see America
See the girls in California
I’m hoping it’s going to come true but there’s not a lot I can do
Could we have kippers for breakfast, mummy dear, mummy dear
They got to have ’em in Texas, cos everyone’s a millionaire
I’m a winner, I’m a sinner, do you want my autograph?
I’m a loser, what a joker
I’m playing my jokes upon you while there’s nothing better to do
Don’t you look at my girlfriend (Girlfriend), she’s the only one I got
Not much of a girlfriend (Girlfriend), never seem to get a lot (What’s she got? Not a lot)
Take a jumbo cross the water, like to see America
See the girls in California
I’m hoping it’s going to come true but there’s not a lot I can do
Supertramp Breakfast In America Lyrics (http://www.lyricsfreak.com)
Well, it was not quite America, but Paris will do …. oui, oui, j’étais de nouveau à Paris ….
There is nothing like the solitude of an early breakfast in a Parisian café. Café Delmas at Place de la Contrescarpe, has quickly become my favorite breakfast place. It smack in the middle of “Quartier Latin”, and a stone throw from where I was staying the last couple of times.
The coffee is great, the croissants are fresh and REALLY good.
Not to forget your vitamins … a large OJ will give you the remaining pick-me-up for the day. Even though nobody would tell me why the serve it with a carafe of water and sugar on the side.
…. and for a little later on, there is Coutume Café at 47 Rue de Babylone. They only open at 10AM, therefore it makes for the second coffee of the morning. At this time, empty and just waking up, it feel more like an alchemy shop than a café.
But what coffee …. only an alchemist would make coffee like that. The taste …. the cream …. the “body” ….. the smell …. this is physics at it’s finest.
But no breakfast is complete without a little Gugelhupf, or …. kouglof …. en français.
For that I would waltz back to Gerard Mulot at 76, rue de Seine. I have been known to sit on the sidewalk in front of the shop and ….. you get the picture ….
